This paper examines the evidence indicating that the names Bré and Dubainn Bré (and variants thereof) may be regarded as older, alternative names for the river Suck. It also considers textual references to some other toponyms associated with the Suck, including the pools named Duiblind Fhroích and Duiblind chríche Cíarraige, and the fort named Dúnad Átha Deirg alias Dún Díarmata. Inter alia, it suggests that the toponymy of the materials discussed raises interesting questions as to the authors' knowledge of the landscape and motivation for referencing it.en_IE
