Otherness, of which the homosexual other is a component, is rarely included in syllabi. This paper will explore the negative implications of its omission, and the benefits of its inclusion in academic curricula, with special attention given to its use as a tool for the prevention of homophobic bullying. Luis Cernuda's poem "If a Man Could Only Say" will be used to highlight the didactic potential of poetry towards accommodating homosexual otherness to the TFL class.
